Re: [HCDX] Kenwood R-1000

I only have a little first hand experience of the R1000, but have owned the
"little brother" R600 since 1981 and for many years used it as my primary
mediumwave receiver (unmodified). The selectivity is a little broad
compared to my main receiver now (R75 with), but at time of purchase the
narrow filter was actually better than the R1000's until Kenwood changed the
design of the latter in response to a universal outcry from the DX
community.

I suspect the RF circuitry in both receivers is very similar otherwise.
Before the ABC went 24 hours (striking the final nail in mediumwave DX from
suburban Australia unless one has a directional antenna) I heard lots of
Africans, Asians and Europeans on my R600 & no doubt would continue to hear
many North Americans, given the right location and antenna set-up.

Both the R1000 and R600 are a nice budget option secondhand.
