[HCDX] September First, First day of the new DX season

Hello to all of you !

The last night condx sounded like the beginning of a new DX season, here in the Montreal area. I have been able to null local CJAD a bit off the back of my antenna and I did hear talk (CKLW ?)
mixing with an unID music station (perphaps VOWR - NF ?). By the way I had other tentative New-Foundland logs. I heard a pop music station on 590 in null of WEZE/CKRS that was almost certainly
VOCM. Also heard country music on 600, did CBNA have this format ? Or maybe CKLC-NS ? Did WICC-CT also play C&W from time to time ? Also had likely CBGY on 750, under WSB. Conditions toward the
Maritimes seemed quite good. CKEC-1320 was often local-like, way over the pesty CJMR. I tryed for RFO-1375 (St.-Pierre et Miquelon), but all I could hear was splash from 1370/1380. I tryed to
tune in beetwen the 580 and 590 domestics and hear a kind of het, that was likely RNE1 (Madrid, Spain). If conditions were even marginally better, that channel would have deliverated spaniard
audio, altough conditions were still good toward northern high and mid-latitude domestics. WFAN was excellent on 770, as was WABC on 770. WCBS was also in with verry, verry good signal as was
most other NYC stations. I even heard WRKO with a decent signal, despite it is just 10 kHz away from local powerfouse CINF. WBZ was really huge and unnulable on 1030 ! And what is that ? - my
local CJMS-1040 have some slops from CHUM-1050. In fact under CJMS, I had a destinctive talk program from WHO, but due to the groundwave/skywave variation of my local, I was`n`t able to put a
decent null on it. Other domestics heard 10 kHz away from locals were CHWO-740, 10 kHz away from CKAC, CIGM-790 heard 10 kHz away from CJAD, a distant station here in Quebec playing Quebec pops
on 810 and of course WEVD-1050. A huge mess of domestics was heard on 1270, a channel away from CJMS. No real attempt was made in order to identify this. The Chiacgo stations were in eith verry
good signals: WSCR-670 (with the ferrite bar aimed int he oposite direction of the CINF-690 tower), WBBM-780, WLS-890 and WVMP-1000.

Latin Americans signals were not as impressive as the mid-west and Maritimes domestics were, but they were there. Radio Vísíon Cristiana was in fair during the whole evening, even tough at
times I had some difficulties to maintain a null on CIAO. I had the Bahamian ZLS morse code beacon on 526 kHz at poor to fair levels at 0213 UTC - I have not heard them since the middle of
March when conditions begun to wrap up ! Early in the evening I had an unID SS trop. mx station on 1150 that was, perphaps YVMV "Mundial Caribe" in Punto Fijo (Falcon state), a couple of
minutes after LSS, later it was lost under CJRC groundwave/skywave "mix" and to CKOC wich were taking tour of dominance on that channel. A spanish domestic is always a possibility, however.
Other LA stuff: RCN Barranquilla noted on 760 with poor and flutterry audio, later lost to residual remaints of nulled WJR. Also had spanish news from Radio Progreso on 890, at fair to poor
levels, later lost to clutter. I tryed pick up Caracas on 750, but I was amazed to discover under WSB another EE domestic that was almost certainly the CBGY outlet of CBC Radio 1, in New
Foundland. A lot of domestics, especially on the high-band were litterally unnullable, even a minor geomagnetic storm would have produced better South American results.

Lots of unIDs, relatively few IDs but it still was a nice and enjoyable DX session ! I used my Sanyo MCD-S830 portable with his internal ferrite bar loop, as my german sheapper dog have played
and destroyed the random wire we installed in our frontyard (perphaps he thinked it was a bone for him ?), and the Realistic DX-150A communication receiver is useless without a good antenna.

73 and good DX !
Bogdan
