I missquoted the Oxford dictionary. Correct quote is:  "Makassar, the
former name until c.1970) of Ujung Pandang", p. 381. Another quote from
page 616: Ujung Pandang:
(formerly Makassar), the chief seaport of the Sulawesi Islands of
Indonesia...pop.(1990) 944,370...."
