Information Radio is becoming "regionalised". The content of the messages
will vary according to the circumstances in the area each frequency is
desiged to cover. 9715 covers the southern part of Iraq, 4500 is almost
certainly intended for the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq. Nick Grace of
CRW points out that they chose a frequency in the range used by a number of
existing stations in Iraqi Kurdistan. These guys do their homework. You'll
probably find some of the same music on both the services, but it will be
played out from a digital file on board the aircraft so won't necessarily be
in sync with another Information Radio service. The regional announcements
will be inserted by the team responsible for a particular service. Obviously
they'll all use the same standard ID's, which is what you heard. I
understand that six aircraft are assigned to this mission, so don't be
surprised if more frequencies appear in the coming days and weeks.
