Re: [HCDX] Tonight's conditions...

I would love to hear real reports on what you are hearing, especially if
you hear unusual DX - stuff that is normally difficult or impossible to DX.

Thanks,

I did some listening out at the Rowley, MA salt-
marsh starting at sunset on Thursday 23 OCT.
All the talk of auroral activity was no joke.
The Venezuelans and Colombians were steamrolling
the domestics. Caribbean stations like ZBVI-780,
WVWI-1000, Grenada-535, ZIZ-555, and Nevis-895
were blow-me-down loud. Brazil had 1100 under
control for awhile. I heard passable audio
(though no ID) from the 1529.55 Uruguayan.
Noted some other oddball frequencies like
1060.3 (Colombia ?), 920.55 (Cartagena,
Colombia), 1209.54 (??), and 561 (??).

650 had a complete traffic jam of Venezuela,
Dominican Republic, Colombia, and maybe
Cuba/WSM/WBSO/CKGA as well. Finally the
CB-like pileup came under control of
Antena Dos from Colombia.

670 was solidly Venezuela until I was getting
ready to leave. At that point Cuba and possibly
WWFE-FL started blending in.

TA's were in also. The most interesting were
Lesotho-1197 with US religion and the Algerian
clandestine (RASD) on 1550, quite loud and
clearly parallel to 7460. RASD-1550 was totally
demolishing WDZK (Disney, CT). Canaries stations
on 621, 1008, 1179, etc. were at monster level.
Morocco-612, 1044, 1053 huge. W. Sahara - 711.05
killing WOR/Cuba. Mauritania-783 like a local
and // 4845 which was weaker. Aurora took out
most of usual CFDR pest, leaving ZBVI & R. Coro
to slug it out on 780. Mauritania smoked 780
most of the time. Spain was good at times but
not consistent. France was barely noted and
northern Europe (UK, etc.) totally absent. You
get the picture ... auroral. This is the kind
of DX opening that is awe-inspiring at the seashore
but nearly useless inland where signals are weaker
and noise is worse. Logs will be done in a few
days.
