Facilitating Prasar Bharati Infrastructure to Private
FM Broadcasters under Phase- II Scheme of MIB
Govt. of India, Ministry of I & B vide their
notification dt. 13.07.2005 has approved the
co-location of Common Transmission Infrastructure
(CTI), consisting of antenna, cable, combiners,
buildings, power supply, water supply etc., at a
common place in each city using Prasar Bharati?s
Infrastructure for setting up of FM transmission
facilities for Private FM Broadcasters, the licenses
for which are being issued by the Government under
Phase-II scheme for 91 cities.
At 85 places the existing AIR/TV Towers shall be
shared with Pvt. Broadcasters through AIR Resources,
DG: AIR and at remaining 6 places Ministry of I & B is
erecting new FM Towers under separate scheme. As per
the licensing contract proposed to be entered with
private broadcasters the infrastructure of Prasar
Bharati such as Tower, Building and Land will be
shared among all Private FM Broadcasters on license
fee basis. It has also been decided by the Government
that the CTI consisting of antenna, cable, combiners,
buildings, power supply, water supply etc., for the
private FM broadcasters will be integrated by
Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Ltd. (BECIL)
under Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.
