Traffic police to go on AIR with roadblock warnings

Chandigarh, July 24: Listening to AIR FM Radio will
now be entertaining as well as informative. For the
Chandigarh Traffic Police has decided to add another
?programme? to the All India Radio FM menu, providing
live information on traffic situation in the city. Be
it acidents, roadblocks, traffic jams or
processions?you will know it just by switching on your
cra radio. And not only the police, even you can make
a call to the FM station to warn your fellow
motorists. The system is to be in place within a week.


And for those interested, the programme will also
provide information on traffic rules and regulations.
This would be aired morning, evening and late evening.
?The exact time-slots would be fixed in a couple of
days. We would also publicise the timings of such
programmes through the AIR and other mediums?, said
DSP (Traffic) PS Malik. The Traffic Police have
already identified a few sponsors for the programmes,
which would incur a monthly expenditure of about Rs
36,000. 

The Traffic Police Control Room will maintain liasion
with the AIR broadcast station (Duty Room) for
bulletins on sudden informations on traffic jams,
roadblocks due to tree felling during monsoon,
accidents and traffic diversions due to VVIP movement.


?There had been instances when during a VVIP movement,
roads have been blocked for a certain span of time,
which causes great inconvenience to the city
motorists. It could be avoided now,? said a senior
traffic police officer. 

The traffic police wll also be participating in talks/
interviews/ debates on AIR. ?The AIR people suggested
this and we have welcomed the idea. Officers from the
rank of SSP (Traffic) and below have indicated their
willingness to participate in such talks and discuss
traffic related issues,? said DSP PS Malik.
