DX Report from Bob Hill, Holliston, Mass. (1/19/97)

BANGLADESH 7185 Bangladesh Betar 1228 Flute IS several times, then
s/on
1230 with woman in English; fair carrier but hardly any audio. Nothing on

9548. (Hill, Jan. 18)

CHINA 5030 UnID 2110 Unlisted PRC station with nondescript program of
Chinese talk by woman and man plus orchestral music; "5+1" pips at 2200,
but
too much QRM to catch ID. Still audible 2225, though weaker and starting
to
mix with assumed Costa Rica. Nothing from China is listed in WRTH, PWBR or
TBL, but I seem to recall that Yunnan PBS used this freq some years ago.
(Hill, Jan. 18)

CHINA 7100 CNR-1 2213 Unlisted outlet with woman in Chinese // 7935
and
6840. Fair/good when ham data transmissions let up. (Hill, Jan. 18)

CHINA 9080 CNR-1 2024 Western-type orchestral music with distinct
Oriental tinge past 2030; fair // 9290 (fair), 7935 (very poor), 7504
(poor),
6840 (very poor). For some reason, it's difficult to hear 31M Chinese
domestic outlets here at this time of day, although some of the lower-freq
ones are commonplace. (Hill, Jan. 18)

JAPAN 9595 R. Tampa 2038 Man in Japanese till 2042, when theme,
announcements by man and woman, "Kochira wa Radio Tampa desu" twice by
woman

and into ad. Quite strong. Very unusual reception; this outlet sometimes
shows in local mornings but is rarely even audible in local afternoons.
(Hill, Jan. 18)

QATAR 11750 QBS 1630 Tuned just as man gave "Idha'a-t u-qatar min
al-doha" Arabic ID; fair. This is one of several countries for which the
new
WRTH has omitted all Foreign Service info. (Hill, Jan. 12)

UNIDENTIFIED 7125/7220 UnID 2243 Station with Middle Eastern vocals
way
underneath Russian-speakers on both channels; still there at 0115 recheck.
(Hill, Jan. 18, 19)

UNIDENTIFIED 7245 UnID 2132 Very strange a-cappella chanting by man,
sounding almost American Indian in nature; at 2157, talk in Arabic past
2200.
Fair level with fuzzy audio and cochannel QRM from somebody weak playing
chime IS at 2143-2145. Almost totally buried by R. Liberty when they came
on
at 2200. Still there at 2257 in Arabic past 2300, but impossible to copy.
I
suspect this may have been Mauritania, which was missing from 60M this
afternoon. (Hill, Jan. 18)
