Re: [HCDX]: Fine Tuning

I haven't been a member of FT for a year or two, so can't comment
directly on the situation. However, a few things should be noted.
First, FT has been in existence for around 20 years and the current
publisher, Larry Yamron, has been doing that for around 12-13 years.
That involved weekly or bi-weekly mailings of a newsletter to around
120-150 members, including printing, folding, envelope-stuffing, etc.
on a 100% volunteer basis. I know that Larry's son, who must be around
13 or 14 now, always helped him with it. I know that Larry's wife has
been very sick for several years and had a lung transplant (maybe a
double lung transplant - I can't remember) about two or three years
ago. Her health has not been good since and I hope she has not taken
another turn for the worse.

I've known Larry personally since 1985, and there are people on this
list like Dan Ferguson who have known him much longer. I think we
can all vouch that Larry is not a crook behind a fly-by-night, rip-you-
off operation. It is totally unwarranted to question Larry's honesty
and intentions, as was done in a previous e-mail.

Before throwing out accusations, it makes more sense to investigate
the problem. Has anyone tried contacting the editors to see what they
know? Dave Valko, are you on this list? If e-mail doesn't work,
perhaps some FT members could try calling one or more of the editors
and/or Larry Yamron himself and report back. Of course, any phone
calls should be made in a civilized manner.

I also want to state that I am disappointed that the e-mail message
questioning Larry's honesty was approved for this list. It was
clearly a strongly-worded flame and should have been returned to the
sender. We don't need that tone of voice on this list. One only needs
look at what happened to rec.radio.shortwave to see what allowing
flaming can do.
