RICHARD A. D ANGELO - This was our first DXpedition to French Creek
State Park. The thorns were not as plentiful as Gifford Pinchot so my
clothing held up just fine. Fred Kohlbrenner and I arrived around 2:00
PM on Thursday, November 5, but the uniforms in charge wouldn?t give us
the key to the cabin until 3:00 PM. Everything is now computerized so
when the system crashes, you can?t get your key to the cabin.
Apparently, the state modernized with old computer systems. Nothing
like the lowest cost bidder getting the project. So we waited and
did some antenna work prior to getting official title to the cabin for
the weekend. Bob Montgomery, Kris Field and Ed Mauger arrived, in
that order I might add, on Thursday afternoon. After setting up, Ed
drove home for his headphones. Thankfully, he lives only about 15
miles from the cabin. Personally, I think he was bored with us after
only an hour. Conditions were far from spectacular until Saturday
afternoon when some Indo' s began rolling in but the cabins were
electrically quite so we now have two Dxpedition sites.

DAVID J. VALKO - Nice to be able to hear Africans again at 2100.
Anyone hearing the Somali 's in the 6650-6900 range lately?? Central
African Rep. seems irregular. Extremely choppy disturbed signals on
everything this evening. Solar Flux = 149, A Index = 18, K Index = 5.
Major geomagnetic storm began at 1200, 8 Nov.

HORACIO A. NIGRO - Effective Dec 1, I will stop receiving requests for
the Radio Carve's 70th Anniversary First Day Cover. The rubber stamp
used for this purpose will be taken off circulation by Post authorities.
A number of mint stamps remain and I will accept requests from
interested people for 3 IRC each (add 1 IRC for each extra stamp).
Please send only "CN 01" type IRCs and enclose a self addressed
envelope. 73 de Horacio

SW TIPS (TIME - Freq. - Country)
--------------------------------------------------

0007- 6674.8- PERU- Radio Impacto, 0007-0034 on Nov. 7, rustic vocals
with man annr talking between each selection with periodic IDs.
Poor. (D Angelo, USA / FCSP)

0009- 5018.7- PERU- Radio Horizonte, 0009-0038 on Nov.8 with lively OA
vocal program ( ? Tropical), ID at 0030 and 0037 and TCs. Poor. (D
Angelo, USA / FCSP)

0025- 5040- INDIA- AIR Jeypore, *0025-0105 on Nov. 7, open carrier to
opening Hindi vocals to 4+1 time pips and ID at 0030. Newscast by man
followed by a program of local vocals. Fair. (D Angelo, USA / FCSP)

0030- 3300- GUATEMALA- R. Cultural, Nov 8, 0030-0045, News program, in
SS, with male announcer. After news program was over, a woman announcer
proceeded with programming. Signal has improved over the last month,
better propagation. SINPO 33333. (Yanko, USA)

0045- 4795- ECUADOR- La Voz de Los Caras, Nov 8, 0045-0055, Very weak,
but copied two announcers, male and female, talking in SS in an exchange
format. SINPO 23322. (Yanko, USA)

0050- 3315- INDIA- AIR Bhopal (presumed), 0050-0114 on Nov. 7 with great
vocal program. Fair to good at the peak. (D Angelo, USA / FCSP)

0158- 4870- ECUADOR- La Voz del Upano, 0158-0203* on Nov. 6, man with
s/off annmts and ID followed by orchestra national anthem. Fair. (D
Angelo, USA / FCSP)

0214- 4790.4- PAKISTAN- Azad Kashmir Radio (very tentative), 0214-0232
on Nov. 8, barely there at threshold level with talks and middle
eastern style music. Not enough signal to ID. Just went looking for
this one too late! Tried 3663 but canno t honestly tell if heard
something there or imagined it, hi! Thanks to Fred Kohlbrenner?s alert.
(D Angelo, USA / FCSP)

0320- 3306- ZIMBABWE- ZBC, 0320-0403 on Nov. 8, great signal tonight
after only marginal reception last night; big band classics and other
stuff among the annmts. (D Angelo, USA / FCSP)

0325- 4820- BOTSWANA- R. Botswana // 7255, Gospel mx. Good signal.
(Field, USA, FCSP)

0345- 7255- BOTSWANA- Radio Botswana noted with classic IS 0345, // 4820
(but no 3356) s/on 04, news in EE noted 0403, other English annts to
0420 or so, lots of music thereafter. What's interesting is that for
about an hour after local sunrise, 4820 is much stronger than 7255 and
only begins to fade down after 60 minutes or so. 7255 stays at good
strengh until until Lagos dumps a carrier on around 0450 UT. Tonight
this reception was characteristic of many Africans with good signals,
and more than a few with good signals way past sunrise time. (Sundstrom,
NJ, USA Nov 9)

0353- 3289.80- GUYANA- Voice of Guyana ID by male announcer. Clear
signal. Nov 8 (Field, US FCSP)

0458- 4815- ECUADOR- R. El Buen Pastor, Nov 8, 0458-0525, Could hear
weak signal being covered up by a utility station. Did not catch ID but
pretty sure it is R. El Buen Pastor, however uncopiable until 0502 in
which there was a man talking in SS, in what sounded like a sermon.
Without the utility station transmitting RTTY, the signal was fair with
little or no interference. SINPO 32333. (Yanko, USA)

0517- 6165- CHAD- Radiodiffusion Nat. Tchadienne 0517-0533 Woman in
French, at 0529 continuous playing of interval signal, the balaphon,
while Swiss Radio was turning from English to French & Radio Nederland
was signing on in Dutch. A hubbub. Signal poor, of course. (Pijpers, The
Netherlands Nov 11)
