Hi:

You know I have been complaining all season about how poor conditions
have been. Well tonight they are poor too, nut I decided to try soething
I haven't done in a long time. I disconnected the Ground rods from the
Eastern Beverage and connected my 1500' radial that runs directly under
the beverage. Well CX weren't any better, but the beverage' gain dropped
off maybe 10 DB. In the process of that many of the stronger stations
are weaker, gibing a chance the weaker stuff under on many frequencies
take over or QRM the channel. The beverage seems about as directional to
the most part, but boy are alot the stronger signals much weaker now.
One care in point, Seattle on 1250 is generally fair at night off the
Eastern Beverage, now with this arrangement, Seattle is in the mud
almost gone with an UNID Gospel station on the channel. I think might be
WREN. I haven't heard them since the move to KS City. 1560 has WQEW all
alone, yes all alone, no Bakersfield for over an hour, WQEW with Disney
(ugh). Many channels are just a mumble mess. It is unbelieveable what
something like this can do even with CX poor. If it wasn't for all the
strong signals, then alot more DX would be heard.
Interesting, two or three stations u/KGO, KNBR, and so on. KMOX on top
of KPNW. Heard WBZ on top of KTWO with lots of New England wx. 1600 Khz
is a garbled mess with KATZ-St. Louis there, some other black station,
C&W, etc. No Seattle on 1250, just a mess of stations.
I didn't heard WJVA on their test, but they were there tonight. A nice
ID on the hour u/o KYIZ. With this arrangement, it feels like I up and
moved somewhere else. Very interesting.
73s,
Patrick
