Here is my reaction to the discussion between Mathias and Karel: I listened
for 10 minutes on that fridaymorning(the 28th). I noted quite an impressive
signal on 1700 Khz here on my location in the Netherlands, 500 m from the
German border. This was at 06.50 UTC and I gave it S 3, fading down to S-2
at 0700.
For a US-station on MW at my location S-3 is very strong!
 I taped this, but did not have time yet to listen to the tape. I do not
know which station it was I heard on 1700, there is one in Florida, but
Christoph Mayer
wrote in MWC that he heard from someone in New Jersey,USA who heard a
testtape on 1700 there with a booming S+9-signal , so maybe a new stn is
active on 1700. Anyone more info???
So there were quite good conditions that fridaymorning
