[HCDX]: Hobby Broadcasting Update 1

Hi and welcome to the first e-mail update for Hobby Broadcasting magazine.
I'm hoping that this little e-newsletter will be good for updating everyone
with a little bit of cool hobby radio info, inform everyone about what's
happening with the latest issue of Hobby Broadcasting, and pass anything
else along that doesn't fit neatly into either of the previous categories.

In case you don't know what Hobby Broadcasting is...Hobby Broadcasting
magazine is a quarterly publication, dedicated to do-it-yourself
broadcasting of all types: microbroadcasting, pirate radio and TV, Internet
radio, public-access radio and TV, shortwave radio, college and high-school
radio and TV, and much more! The current issue is 52 pages (8"x11") with a
glossy cover. Subscriptions are only $13/year or $24/two years in the U.S.
For other info, see our Web page at http://www.hobbybroadcasting.com

In case you're wondering how you wound up on this mailing list...well, we're
using e-mail addresses from people who have recently written to HB and also
the old mailing list from the days when I published the little Pirate Pages
shortwave radio newsletter. In case you'd like to be removed from this list,
please send a polite e-mail to me at ayoder@xxxxxxxx

The Latest Issue
The Spring 2000 issue is currently at the printer
and we've received word that the cover is finished. Expect it in early to
mid April. The big articles in this issue include a visit to the last offshore
radio station on Earth, a long look at the LPFM ruling, Part 1 of the history
of the DuMont TV network, plus FM news, shortwave pirate news, and more. If
you normally like reading HB, we think you'll love this issue.

The Web Page http://www.hobbybroadcasting.com
	* Our page is being updated fairly regularly now with news stories and
more. We've even started to work on the station links. If you have any good
link updates, for shortwave & FM pirate radio, webcasting, etc., please drop
a line.
	* We're thinking about adding a bulletin board and a classifieds section to
the page. Any interest in these?

----------------
Ad News
Our rates are still staying the same for at least a little longer. The ad
deadlines for the next issue are officially 4/30/00, but we might be able to
run a little longer in a pinch. We can also offer online credit card
ordering for ads, for a few extra dollars, set-up fee. Let us know if you're
interested.

Europe Promo
Radio 510 International (3985 and 7120 kHz, shortwave) will be giving away a
large stack of the Winter 1999/2000 issue of HB. I don't know the
particulars, but I think they're giving them away (free) + $1 for postage.
Presently, there's no info about the promo on their web page, but you can
see their page at: http://www.radio510.org/

Shortwave News
	* Look out for broadcasts from Radio Alpha Lima International (Holland) on
15070 kHz. They've recently been heard as far West as Omaha! My recent 6290
kHz QSL from AL said 475 watts!
	* From South America, Radio Cochiguaz (6950 kHz LSB) and Radio Blandengue
(14565 kHz) have been heard in the U.S. & Canada recently. Check for them on
weekends.
	* I've heard that some more stations will be running around 13910 kHz from
North America on weekends.
	* The big place to listen in North America is still 6955 kHz USB on weekends.
	* News is that Farmers from Holland were almost, but not quite, busted last
weekend.
	* I've gotten wind of some more odd-frequency tests. Some rumored
frequencies include 26025 and 21750 kHz. Targeted times are anywhere from
1600-0000 UTC on Sundays.

----------------
FM News
Most of what I've been hearing about lately has either been from small
pirate stations or about the licensed LPFM stations.
	* If you want to check out the LPFM Report & Order, go to the FCC page at:
http://www.fcc.gov.
	* A bunch of the hobbyist kit companies are working on type-approved
transmitters, but none have yet been unveiled. Prices should be much less
than the current crop of commercial low-power rigs. I've heard prices less
than $1000 mentioned.
	* LPFM available in your area? Try http://www.recnet.com/rec/lpfm/chs-rec.htm

HB Stuff
We're planning to offer Hobby Broadcasting t-shirts and possibly sweatshirts
and/or mugs. Shirts would probably be in the $12 range. Are you interested
in these or anything else?
