[HCDX] Lots of Africans, plus a few ringers



Lots of logs in the past few days since my new 7030+ arrived (and since I
fixed my 250-foot mini-Beverage).  I thought the Namibia log was
particularly interesting, since they're not supposed to be on 7215 at that
hour.

BOTSWANA 4820 Radio Botswana 0252 The usual IS (also on // 7255 under
Arabic), pop music, still there at 0415 retune, nice canned ID by OM and
YL, into more music (Brandi August 28)

TANZANIA 5050.07 Radio Tanzania 0255 Congolese-style pop music, time pips
(same as used by Zanzibar on 11734.1), into news in presumed Swahili, with
mentions of Mandela, Clinton, and Burundi, ID at end of news @0302, more
music, another ID "Hi ni Radio Tanzania, Dar es Salaam" @ 0317; weakening
but still intelligible by 0340 (15 minutes after 0325 sunrise in Dar es
Salaam), audible but unintelligible by 0410 (Brandi August 29)

CONGO-BRAZZAVILLE 5985 Radio Congo 2225 Congolese-style music, talk in
French, ID @ 2231 in passing "Radio Congo"; tnx Pete Costello (Brandi
August 24)

BELARUS 7210 Radio Minsk 0158 IS, IDs in multiple languages, including in
English "You're listening to Radio Minsk"; into English program with
another ID, address, into news (Brandi August 28)

BENIN 7210.27 Radio Benin 0607 music and talk in French, mentions of Benin,
ID as "Radio Benin" as part of promo at 0616; still going strong @ 0644,
exactly 1 hour after sunrise in Cotonou; thanks Mark Fine (Brandi August 27)

NAMIBIA 7215 Namibia Broadcasting Corporation 2255 Mention of World Radio
Network at 2303, lots of Frank Sinatra music, including song "Devil Moon",
announcements in possible French with a few instances of English; WRN ID
and stinger at TOH, into Radio Australia programming, //3270 from Namibia
and 21740 from Radio Australia; lots of ham QRM as evening progressed.

item number 5 says "5. Nocturnal Namibia Welcomes The World!
WRN - December 20, 1999 NBC National Radio in Namibia has started
transmitting World Radio Network (WRN), the respected international radio
service, as an overnight sustaining service for a three-month trial.

NBC schedule web page at <http://natradio.imlt.org.na/nat-sched.htm> says
they air WRN from 0000-0600. Frequencies page at
<http://natradio.imlt.org.na/frequencies.htm> says 7215 should switch to
3290 at 1800. 3290 not audible. (Brandi August 29)

ZANZIBAR 11734.07 Sauti ya Tanzania Zanzibar 1858 Arabic-style music, talk
in Swahili, time pips at TOH at both 1900 and 2000, Africa-style music, NA
at 2101*  (Brandi August 24)
