Re: [HCDX] Ramadan 2000
Willi:
I copied the following off the net--
According to the Islamic Society of North America
the first day of fasting for Ramadan is expected to be
December 9,1999.
(In the year 2000, Ramadan begins November 27)
At 06:44 PM 8/31/00 +0300, you wrote:

Then there is the following:
Ramadan for the year 2000
Ramadan will begin on November 26,
2000 for most
of the United States. God
willing. The last day of
Ramadan will be December 25,
2000 for the whole
USA
http://www.submission.org/ramadan.html
Then there is :
http://www.ummah.org.uk/ramadhan/ram99b/index.html#Ramadhan
which I copied below. There is an issue even within the Muslim world
apparently as to when it starts. The page above does address this for 1999
and I included it so you could get some understanding about the real "start
of Ramadan". Interesting, huh?

Ramadhan & Eid ul-Fitr 1420AH (1999/2000)
Ramadhan
The month of Ramadhan begins after the sighting of the lunar crescent on
the previous evening.
The coloured bands on the maps below indicate areas of the world where the
crescent is likely to be visible on the
date indicated:

It is expected that the new moon will be visible from parts of North,
Central and South America on the evening of
8th Dec 1999.
It is expected that the new moon will be visible from the rest of the
world on the evening of 9th Dec 1999.
Note that the new moon will NOT be visible from anywhere on the evening
of 7th Dec 1999.
Hence pending actual moon sighting, Ramadhan should begin in the
Americas on 9th Dec
1999 and the rest of the world on 10th Dec 1999.
Eid ul-Fitr
Eid ul-Fitr occurs after the end of the month of Ramadhan. Eid is
celebrated after the sighting of the new crescent on the
previous evening.
The coloured bands on the map below indicate areas of the world where the
crescent is likely to be visible on the

It is expected that the new moon will be visible from North and South
America and possiby West Africa on the evening of 7th Jan 2000.
It is expected that the new moon will be visible from the rest of the
world on the evening of 8th Jan 2000.
Hence pending actual moon sighting, Eid ul-Fitr should be on 8th Jan 2000
for the Americas
and possibly parts of West Africa and 9th Jan 2000 for the rest
of the world.

Hello all,
who does know the date Ramadan 2000 starts?
A DX Club published a date recently which does not correspond with full
moon - to my knowledge, Ramadan should start at full moon.
Thanks for any help!

Willi
