Re: [HCDX] EWE antenna

Michael,

Thanks for sharing your experiences with the Ewe antenna with us. I
also have been searching for a highly directional antenna good for the
tropical bands. I already have a Flag and K9AY terminated loop, and
although these can't be beat for MW, there's room for improvement on SW.

My understanding is that the Ewe is highly dependent on ground
conductivity, and one has to experiment with both the antenna size and
terminating resistor. Also, the QST articles give examples for top or
bottom fed antennas.

So, could you please provide a few more details on your antenna design?
Specifically: length of vertical and horizontal sections, height above
ground, are you feeding it at the bottom or top, value of terminating
resistor, and an approximation of your ground conductivity.

Regarding your impedance matching transformer, Floyd states to wind a
transformer with a 3:1 turns ratio, which achieves a 9:1 impedance
ratio. So, your transformer is exactly what was required.

Thanks,

George
