WRN's "Plug & Play" studio proves a quick winner for 88.3 Village FM's
Breakfast Sh:
(21 March 2005)
WRN, the London-based international transmission provider, has played host
to the 88.3 Village FM Breakfast Show team from Agios Ioannis Rentis,
Greece. Hosts Vicky Hatzaki and Dimitris Milioglou were in London with ten
competition winners over the weekend and late on Friday afternoon (18th
March) found they needed a studio from which to broadcast their live Monday
morning breakfast show. WRN was able to offer the team its "plug and play"
studio with ISDN connectivity back to the Village FM studio. The team
simply turned up at 4.30am on Monday 21st March and started their live show
at 5am (6am local Greek time).
Radio stations visiting London and broadcasting live shows back home
regularly use WRN's studio. Recently this has included Dublin's FM 104,
which broadcast its post BRITS Award breakfast show from the WRN studio.
Tim Ayris, WRN's Marketing Manager, said: "We are always delighted to
welcome stations from around the world to use our studio facilities, which
offer worldwide connectivity at a great price." (Source : WRN Press

(25 March 05)
Peter Fincham has been appointed the new Controller of BBC One, the British
Broadcasting Corporation's flagship channel. He will become the channel's
creative leader, being responsible for its editorial vision, its
commissioning and scheduling of strategies. "The BBC is going through big
changes, but BBC ONE remains its flagship channel and reinterpreting and
reinvigorating it for new audiences is about as exciting a challenge as it
gets," he said of his appointment.
Mr Fincham is the outgoing Chief Executive of talkback THAMES, the United
Kingdom's biggest independent production company. He took up the post when
Talkback and Thames, two of the best-known brands in UK television, merged
in February 2003. In 2001, he won the Indie Award for the individual who
made the most outstanding contribution to the independent sector of the
industry. Mr Fincham joined Talkback in 1985, then a radio, commercials and
corporate video company. He became Managing Director a year later, leading
the company's move into television production in 1989. (Source : ABU Latest

Radio Netherlands to send 3 mobile radio stations to Aceh
(23 March 05)
Radio Netherlands is constructing three mobile radio stations which will be
shipped to Aceh at the end of the month. These will enable three RN partner
stations in Banda Aceh, Meulaboh and the island of Nias to resume their
broadcast operations by late April. The partner stations were completely
destroyed by the 26 December tsunami. "It is really important that the
radio stations in Aceh are back on the air as soon as possible. Radio is a
vital means of communication in Aceh and a major source of information for
listeners," RN Director-General Jan Hoek said.
The mobile radio stations will be sent to Aceh on a loan basis. Once RN's
partner stations are able to resume using their own facilities, the mobile
units will be deployed to other parts of the world for training purposes or
in connection with other natural disasters. RN, an ABU member, is also
financially helping out staff of its partner stations who survived the
disaster. It will also provide training courses for new and existing
employees of these stations. (Source : ABU Latest News)
