5th Annual Madison WI DX GTG 8/22/98
Saturday, August 22, 1998, 1:00 p.m. until the last person leaves. Come
when you can and leave when you must.
Where: Bill Dvorak's house, 501 Algoma Street, Madison WI 53704-4812.
Activities: Good fellowship and lots of DX talk in an informal
atmosphere. Please feel free to bring any equipment, QSLs, station
souvenirs, log books, or anything else that you would like to show to
or share with the group. We encourage everyone to participate in a
group photo, so bring along your camera. We will be going out for
dinner in the early evening hours, and can either return to Bill's
house or plan some other activity afterwards. If you do plan to come in
the early evening, please call ahead so we can tell you where we will
be eating.
Refreshments: Snacks and soft drinks will be provded. If you prefer
another beverage, please feel free to bring your own.
Directions: Bill lives on Madison's East Side at the corner of Algoma
and Hoard Streets, one block from the intersection of East Washington
Avenue and East Johnson Street. The easiest way to get there from East
Washington is via Oak Street, one block east of the Washington/Johnson
intersection. Turn at the corner of Oak with the Taco Bell on one side
and the KFC on the other. Go north on Oak for one block and turn left
on Hoard for one block. His house is the brown ranch on the near right
corner.
Out-of-towners: East Washington Avenue is Highway 151, and can be
accessed from I90-94 at exit 135A, or from Hwy 30 just blocks from the
GTG. Bill will be glad to furnish a map upon request.
A word of caution about the Interstate: the junction of I90, I94 and
Hwy 30 is undergoing extended upgrading. Lanes are closed on some
stretches of I90 from Hwys 12-18 north, and the intersection itself has
much construction activity. You can get through okay, but expect poorly
marked exits and traffic delays.
Accommodations: If anyone is thinking of staying over on Saturday
night, there are several good motels in the immediate area. Write or
call for information. Bill will gladly host you on a Madison tour on
Sunday, if you like.
Also, if you are either coming on Friday night or early on Saturday,
let us know, and we can arrange some early Saturday activities.
Please RSVP. We would like to know for planning purposes how many will
attend. Contact Bill anytime up to the GTG day by any method below:
Write to the above address. Telephone (608)244-5497 (if not at home,
leave a message on the answering machine). E-mail: DXERak@xxxxxxx
We hope you can make it. The Madison group of DXers looks forward to
seeing you here!

oldies, and IDed for KSOS, the 800 kHz. affiliate. I guess it's on
regular schedule now.

The NRC's AM Radio Log is in need of some help with some conflicting
reports on format, networks and other information that is needed to
help keep it current Listed by State. If you can help, thanks! If you
can pass the question on to someone who can thanks also! Please DO NOT
quote other peoples info from DX News or DX Monitor. That's where most
of the conflicts came from! Thanks, Paul Mount, Ron Musco, Perry
Crabill etc. and those who responded in the pages of DX NEWS This
posting is the unanswered questions as of August 9, 1998.
Many thanks for the help!

Non-QSL received:
CLANDESTINE 1575 The Voice of the Military Forces and the Internal
Security Forces: I sent a reception report and a cassette tape to
the Iraqi National Accord office in London. I received a
hand-written letter 26 days later from Mr. H. Hmoud that included the
following: "We 'Iraqi National Accord' received with thanks your
letter dated 9 July, 1998, concerning 'Voice of the Military Forces
and the Internal Security Forces.' The Iraqi National Accord for
years has its broadcasting station 'Al Mustaqbal,' which means 'The
Future,' and it broadcasts directly to inside Iraq. Our friends and
colleagues inside Iraq who are listening to Al Mustaqbal broadcasting
mention that they monitored 'Voice of the Military Forces and the
Internal Security Forces.' But our movement, the Iraqi National
Accord, has nothing to do with it, and unfortunately we have no idea
who is responsible for such a Voice."
MW QSLs received
NETHERLANDS 1224 Q Radio: full data sheet, v/s Peter Jansen,
Director, with sticker and station info in 29 days for 2 IRC's.
SPAIN 1575 Radio Pamplona: partial data letter, v/s Fdo. Luis Perez
Forteis, Director Technico, in 27 days for Spanish report with
cassette tape and 1 IRC.

IRCA Mexican Log, 5th Edition
The IRCA is proud to announce the release of the 5th edition of its
MEXICAN LOG. The IRCA MEXICAN LOG log lists all AM stations in Mexico
by frequency, including call letters, state, city, day/night power,
slogans, schedule in UTC/GMT, formats, networks and notes. In
addition, stations that have changed frequency since 1996 are
cross-referenced on the old frequency. The call letter index gives
call, frequency, city and state. The city index (listed by state, then
city) includes frequency, call and day/night power. The log has been
completely updated from the 1996 edition and carefully cross-checked by
IRCA members in Mexico and the US. This is an indispensable reference
for anyone who hears Mexican radio stations. Size is 8 1/2" x 11" and
three hole punched for easy binding (optional).
